Leaders...

Working in the corporate world can be quite a challenge as people try to impress and make a name for themselves.  Political games are abound an many seek out likely allies, that they believe will further their careers, or even subscribe to ideals, that they do not even believe in, in order to align themselves.  Yet others become spineless and move with the flow hoping they can avoid any fallout by saying the "right" things. And yet others go into survival mode and ensure their survival at the cost of those around them for that of the organisation.  All this in pursuit of perceived fame and fortune.

But all is not as gloomy as it sounds.  Here and there, there are pockets of sanity were those that are in charge understand that, ultimately, they are there to serve the organisation and make sure that the thousands that it provides jobs to are the reason for there existence. That their responsibility extends beyond that of the little turf that they are custodians of.  It is these that rise above the rest and make their mark and truly leave a legacy behind that enter into the annals of history and shape the corporate culture.

These are the people who lead the organisation and change the very fabric of its purpose to align it with the world around and ever so slowly direct the course of the juggernaut one action at a time.  They are the ones who rip through the old and replace it with the new.  They are those who consistently innovate and reveal a new course through the troubled waters.

They see the world differently, and consistently add value and exposes the value of those around them.  They consistently seek ways of improving the lot of those around them and helps them grow to realise there full potential.  These are the true leaders.  Unconventional, strong in their views, yet open to new ideas and forever considering that they are a rather small cog in the bigger scheme of things.  And they know, without a doubt, that there strength lies in those around them.

As for me, I aspire to be one of these leaders :-)
