Murphy's Law?
How come when you late for an appointment you land up behind the slowest driver on the freeway while cars scream past on either side of you preventing you passing? And if by some miracle you do manage to switch lanes the lane you switch too immediately slows down to such an extent that the slow driver, you had been trapped behind, passes you and disappears into the distance leaving you wondering how the heck did they manage it?
Or when you get to the checkout queue at the super market and you strategically chose one that has the least amount of people in it and everything goes well till they get to the person in front of you. And as you see the last item being rung up and start unpacking your trolley the person in front of you decides that this is the exact moment in time to cash in the coins that they have been collecting for the last decade to settle the bill. And as logic dictates the process begins with the smallest denomination and you have to strongly resist the temptation to grab the person and squeeze the living daylights out of them.
Or when you standing in line at the movies waiting to get some popcorn and refreshments and the people in front of you seems to be debating and discussing at length each and every combination that is available on the menu and finally, when they have sufficiently delayed you beyond the first few minutes of the movie, they finally settle on the combo at the top of the list.
Or when you drive around the parking lot of a shopping centre hoping to get a parking close to the entrance and after driving around without any success you finally settle on one that is furthest away from the door only to find that one has become available right next to the entrance.
Or when you go to see your favourite standup comic and you become the target of his jokes for the whole evening.
Murphy's law you say, well I have to tell you this. When I first heard of Murphy, I immediately proceeded to the local Irish pub to see if I could find the proverbial Murphy! After a while in the pub, enquiring about this fellow called Murphy, I realised it would be wiser to let sleeping dogs lie least I be committed to some mental institution.
So finally I leave you with this thought, is this really Murphy's law, or is it a manifestation of some unconscious state of mind that continues to thwart our best efforts? I wonder! ;-)
